Statement by H.E. Antonio Enrico Bartoli, Ambassador of Italy in Georgia
“The death of Margo Martiashvili, to whose family the Embassy of Italy expresses its heartfelt sympathies, proves once again the potential negative impact of current restrictions on the well-being of ordinary people living on both sides of the administrative boundary line.
This unfortunate event shows the necessity to reopen the crossing points along the ABL to allow freedom of movement of the local population, especially but not only, in the case of urgent medical treatment.
Italy reaffirms its support to Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, underscores the need to ensure the respect of basic human rights and to engage in a constructive dialogue that takes full advantage of all the tools provided by the Geneva International Discussions, including the hotline and IPRMS (Incident Prevention Response Mechanism).”
