12 Oct 2010 - “ARGO” database to be presented tomorrow to Italian companies

In the context of the annual meeting of the Italian Business Board, to be held tomorrow afternoon at Sheraton Hotel in Tbilisi, the Embassy of Italy to Georgia will present to Italian companies the “ARGO” project. “ARGO” is an on-line CV search tool containing the CVs of the young Georgian Internally Displaced Persons which were hosted by Italian families during the nineties, after the conflicts in Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

According to unofficial data, about 1000 children were hosted in Italy by Sicilian families and hundreds of them are still in touch with what they call in many cases their “Sicilian relatives”. Thanking to their contacts with Italy, they were able to develop a number of skills, such as good proficiency in Italian. Many of them are currently looking for a job or are trying to improve their professional positions. ARGO’s aim is to continue to support these young people, facilitating them in their professional path. The database is a navigation tool open to Italian businesses, NGOs and Administrations wishing to invest or to implement projects in Georgia.

The project has been conceived by the Embassy of Italy in Tbilisi and financed by the Italian MFA. The juvenile section of “Georgia-Italia” Association, recently created by some of these young people, has developed the database together with the Italian Association “NEXT”. Second phase of the project foresees access to the database for all Georgians skilled in Italian language.

ARGO will be accessible starting from tomorrow on the website www.argo.agit.ge
